Job Interview Tips – What Not to Do!

Getting a job in New Jersey or NYC isn’t easy but if you get called for Interview, do you know how you should act? What Interview techniques and tips would work best and in your favor? Many Fortune 500 companies have spent time to develop a 3-step interview process to help you pass the interiview in NJ or NYC and get the job!

Step 1: Being Prepared

  • Research the company before hand and be prepared to answer questions about it
  • Review the job position your applied for and if you met the qualifications for it
  • Be able to explain your experiences, related skills, your strengths, and weaknesses, and why you think you are such a fit for this job.
  • Another good idea is to have practice interviews with a friend so that you are comfortable and ready
  • Bring at least 2 copies of your Resume and Application
  • If you just graduate college, your employer may want to see your transcripts if you can bring a copy, please do so.
  • Have a list of References
  • Be prepared to fill out a job application so bring anything you need to fill out important information on it.

Step 2: Dress Appropriately

  • Don’t show up in sloppy ripped clothes
  • Don’t smoke or chew gum
  • Dress very professional (over-dressing can’t hurt you here)
  • Plan your attire the night before so you can arrive early to the Interview
  • Iron your clothes, try not to show up with wrinkled clothing
  • Clean yourself up, nicely groomed is the best way to go.
Step 3: The Actual Interview
  • ALWAYS be at least 5-10 minutes early to the NJ or NYC job interview
  • Remember the name of your interviewer as you shake his or her hand
  • Be on your best behavior, no cursing, use good judgement and proper English; avoid using slang.
  • Focus on the Speaker, Answer Questions thoroughly and Use Eye Contact
  • Show interest in the position by asking questions about the company, and what you would be doing.
  • Do not ask about the Salary or Benefits until a job offer is actually a made.
  • Don’t forget to the thank them for the opportunity to be interviewed and send them a thank you email response by email to show them that you are still definitely interested in the position.
